Cristy Hayes has over 20 years of experience in journalism and marketing communications. Working for a leading Louisiana newspaper, the Baton Rouge Morning Advocate, Cristy began her career as a reporter – writing both hard news and feature articles for over five years while supporting the production process. While working for the paper, she also covered the Louisiana Legislature for Louisiana Public Broadcasting and worked in public relations for United Way – organizing annual campaign events, producing press releases, cultivating media relationships and generating promotional material.
She then moved to Atlanta and began working for the advertising agency Adair-Greene. Working in account services, she was responsible for the development of campaign material and the coordination of employee incentive programs for Coca-Cola USA, overseeing the annual campaign launch and ongoing participation of bottlers from across the United States. She moved into the technology industry in 1991 working for Spectrum Data Systems of Atlanta, developing marketing material, press releases and corporate newsletters promoting video conferencing equipment and environments.
She then joined Peachtree Software, overseeing the development of all marketing and press material pertaining to the company’s Windows and Macintosh accounting software product lines – working with outside direct mail, public relations and advertising agencies. She also conducted press tours to present new products to the leading industry publications across the United States.
Cristy then moved to Lyon, France and began developing a newsletter for the American Group of Lyon and the Rhone-Alps Region, which was designed to keep temporary residents apprised of tax law changes, international services facilitating life abroad, INTERPOL security alerts, and general activities and updates of interest to American expatriates. She developed a first of its kind expatriate relocation guide for a local Franco-American relocation agency responsible for corporate relocations. And working with the American Consulate in France, she helped organize American events during the 1996 G-7 Summit (currently the G-20) held in Lyon. Upon returning to Atlanta, Cristy began writing for CARE International as a contributing writer and consultant in the development of local public service announcements. She and her family moved to Houston in 1998, where she continued to work for CARE International before she began working as an independent contractor for several Houston marketing agencies.
As an independent contractor, Cristy has provided written communication services (creative and technical), developed and executed marketing plans, managed media relations and provided project support in a broad range of industries – including healthcare, oil and gas, real estate, construction and information technology.
